Inspired by a small and ancient constellation, this pair winks at the dolphin that helped the sea god Poseidon win the heart of his wife, the mermaid Amphitrite. In one tale, Delphinus is the dolphin that carried the musician Arion (a child of Poseidon) to safety after his escape from sailors who attempted to steal his belongings. In gratitude, Apollo (or Poseidon in some versions) placed the dolphin among the stars as the constellation Delphinus–a twinkling reminder of a meeting of courage and divine favor.
